On XX/XX/XXXX, I submitted an electronic payment for the full statement ( ending XX/XX/XXXX ) balance XXXX - to go through on it's due date of XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX, a merchant submitted a credit to the account for the amount of XXXX. Wells fargo did no notify me of this credit. On XX/XX/XXXX ( payment due date ), wells fargo notified me that my payment of XXXX was rejected due to it being over the current balance. Because the merchant credit was received after the previous billing cycle, it should have been applied to the next billing cycle. Instead they made it retroactive and canceled a valid payment I had submitted. Luckily I was home and saw the notification that allowed me to submit another payment, but I had only a few hours to do so before I would have been penalized for non-payment. This is completely unfair consumer practice.
