I closed my XXXX account with XXXXXXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX because I considered their new interest rates exhorbitant. I made several payments to pay off the balance. I thought I paid them off in full on XXXX XXXX with a payment of {$81.00} and threw away everything I had to do with this company. I received an alert from XXXX, my credit report monitoring company, that I owed them money and that my account was 30 days overdue. They said that my balance had been {$89.00}, not {$81.00}. I asked why I had not received any request for the balance via US mail, email or phone. They insisted that I must be wrong because they checked their system and it said they had sent it out. When I pointed out that things sometime get lost in the mail or delivered to the wrong address, she told me it was not her problem and that I should go to the post office to complain! At this point, we were talking about less than {$10.00}. I filed a dispute and eventually got a letter from them saying I was wrong and they were right. I also filed a dispute thru Experian because of the negative effect it was having on my credit rating. By this point, they said I owed them {$25.00}. They turned down that dispute as well. About a week later, I threw in the towel and made the disputed payment over the phone. The very next day I got an email from Experian stating that my credit report had plummeted another XXXX points because these fools had reported me as being over 60 days late. How can one company single handedly destroy my credit rating over a disputed {$25.00}? It took my decades to get my credit rating to exceptional and it is now only " fair ''. I am a senior citizen and this stain will be on me until I die. Does this punishment fit the " crime '' of questioning them? There is nothing fair at all about how I am being treated and spoken to by unreasonable people. I ask you : look at my credit history and tell me why I would torpedo my credit score over {$25.00}? A reasonable person would say there is clearly no fraudulent or criminal intent.
