I moved out of an apartment XX/XX/year>. This was XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX XXXX. Upon moving out, I gave them my new address to forward any balance due. My rent was prorated for 4 days and I went to the office to inform property manager I could not access or pay online, and that I didn't want to have a late fee. I was told to " not worry about it '' and that she would send to my new address, which was provided. I did not receive anything by mail, and it was only a few days ago I checked my credit and had a credit hit for a debt collection. I called the XXXX XXXX to ask why this was. I spoke to someone named XXXX XXXX and she said they no longer manage the property as of late XXXX, but she did say that it looked like no one had made an attempt to send me a balance owed, she also stated that this was contestable. She gave me the number of debt collector ( this was the only information given up until this point ). I called the debt collector and asked them to verify when and by what method they attempted to contact me in regards to this matter. These calls were recorded for my records. I was hung up on twice. I called XXXX XXXX XXXX and was referred to XXXX attorney 's office.
