My husband and I are trying to buy a house, and I noticed a delinquent " loan '' on my credit report to Mariner Finance. I thought this weird and knowing that my recently deceased mother had received loans in my name before, I called to inquire. The loan is supposedly something Mariner acquired when it assumed another loan company, and the information they could give me is limited, but the original loan was one of those mailed check schemes, taken out in 2018, in the amount of {$1700.00}, yet the balance is somehow now {$4500.00} because of interest! Not only is this insane, but they also told me they couldn't give me the loan docs because they didn't have them! I have offered to pay the original loan amount to settle the debt, but this isn't good enough. I am not going to pay XXXX XXXX in interest for something they have never even tried to collect ( this says a lot in itself. )
