I spent a total of {$890.00} to activate an American Express Platinum card for myself and my wife ( {$690.00} for me, {$190.00} for my wife ). American Express advertised to me in writing and verbally that the American Express Platinum card would entitle me to access lounges of XXXX XXXX when flying on a XXXX flight. This was the entire impetus for my wife and I to spend the {$890.00} on the American Express Platinum. However, American Express did NOT disclose that we would need to have an upgraded XXXX flight ( i.e., above basic economy ) in order to obtain access to XXXX lounges. I discovered this after I had booked multiple trips on XXXX ( with basic economy fare ) instead of on other, cheaper airlines. I spoke to American Express, and they said that this is too bad, and that they would not help remedy the situation in any way.
