On XX/XX/year>, I mailed a dispute letter to TransUnion via XXXX XXXX mail, requesting an investigation into multiple items on my credit report that I believe are inaccurate, along with a bankruptcy record that is reported with discrepancies and incomplete information. In compliance with TransUnions requirements, I included all necessary documents to verify my identity, such as a recent copy of my proof of address, my government-issued ID, and my Social Security card . Despite providing these documents, TransUnion refused to conduct the investigation as required under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ). Instead, on XX/XX/year>, I received a response from TransUnion stating : We recently received a request that included your information, but it didnt appear that you or a properly authorized third party sent it to us. We take the privacy and security of your data very seriously, so we wont process requests unless they come directly from you or an authorized third party. According to the FCRA, if a consumer disputes the completeness or accuracy of any information in their credit file, the credit bureau is required to conduct a reasonable reinvestigation to verify or correct the disputed information. Despite my compliance with all identification requirements, TransUnions refusal to conduct the investigation represents a violation of my consumer rights under the FCRA.
