I made a balloon payment to my student loan with Nelnet in order to pay down the principal and reduce interest accruing on the account. This was done after my monthly payment had already been made. It was directed to be paid to principal only. Not only did they not follow instructions, but this months payments state that there is outstanding interest. I had called before I made the lump sum payment to verify that there was no outstanding interest amount on the account. I was told that there was none. I asked if my additional payment would be applied to principal only and was assured by the customer service person that I XXXX would be. That did not happen.
