Consumer Narrative

SEE ATTACHMENTS I am filing a formal complaint regarding my inability to access my Equifax credit report online. Despite repeated attempts, I have been unable to create an account or log in to view or dispute items on my credit report through XXXX online platform. As a XXXX individual, online access is crucial for me to independently manage my credit. I believe this issue may be in violation of multiple laws that protect consumers, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX. 1. Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ) 15 U.S.C. 1681 The FCRA requires credit reporting agencies ( CRAs ) to provide consumers with access to their credit reports and to ensure accurate and fair reporting. My inability to access my credit report denies me the rights guaranteed under the FCRA, including the ability to dispute inaccurate information. 2. Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA ) 42 U.S.C. 12101 et seq. The ADA prohibits discrimination based on XXXX, including the requirement that public accommodations ( which may apply to certain services provided by Equifax ) provide equal access to services. Equifaxs lack of accessible online access effectively excludes me from its services due to my XXXX. 3. Equal Credit Opportunity Act ( ECOA ) 15 U.S.C. 1691 et seq. The ECOA mandates that all consumers have equal access to credit-related services. By denying me access to my own credit information, Equifax may be indirectly preventing me from equal opportunities to secure credit, which could be considered discriminatory. 4. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 29 U.S.C. 794 This law prohibits discrimination based on XXXX by entities that receive federal funding. If Equifax receives federal funding, it may be obligated to ensure that its services are accessible to individuals with XXXX. 5. Consumer Financial Protection Act ( CFPA ) 12 U.S.C. 5481 et seq. The CFPA grants the CFPB authority to ensure fair, transparent, and accessible financial services. The barriers I face in accessing my credit report may be contrary to the CFPBs mandate to protect consumer rights. 6. Universal Access to Credit Reports Under FCRA Regulation V CRAs must provide consumers with the ability to access and dispute credit information. The lack of accessible online tools undermines my right to dispute inaccuracies efficiently and keep my credit report accurate. For verification purposes, I have attached copies of my utility bill, drivers license, and Social Security card to confirm my identity. I am requesting that the CFPB direct Equifax to address this issue and provide a solution that enables me to view and dispute items on my credit report online. Equifaxs lack of responsiveness to this access issue impedes my rights to fair and equal access and may constitute discrimination.
