I was called by Debt Co XXXX XXXX at or around the middle of XXXX, XXXX. They told me a debt I owe was turned over to them for collections. I was baffled because I work hard to pay my bills. They told me it was for XXXX XXXX XXXX. This was my old XXXX company who I knew that I would be having issues with them as they were predatory when I lived at the property that I XXXX from them and I had no doubt that they would be predatory after I had moved out. We had disagreements in what dates I had moved out. However - I had not heard a single thing from them since I moved out. I received no bills or phone calls alerting me to any debt that I owed until the collection agency called me. I explained this to the lady from the collection agency and she told me she would look into this. I also explained how outrageous I felt it was that they didn't even bother contacting or billing me before they handed it over. Within XXXX weeks I was sent a statement outlining all of the reasoning behind the alleged debt. This letter asked for my response by XXXX. I wrote a dispute of the amount and I asked that I work with the company itself to resolve this. The letter was written on XX/XX/XXXX and mailed around that time to ensure that they received the disputed amount by their requested date. A week later I was called by XXXX XXXX by the same woman as before and I explained that I have barely had adequate time to respond and that I am doing that in letter form. She wanted to verify that I planned on disputing the amount, which I agreed that I was. I was alerted on Sunday to a new collection on my credit and was shocked to see that XXXX XXXX filed this as a collection against me while I was trying to resolve the issue. I have had neither an appropriate amount of time nor adequate conversations or allowance to dispute this collection. They did not ask for proof or anything- they just used a bully tactic to force me to work with them which I tried to do. It is my understanding that the way they have proceeded is inappropriate.
