Ally will not allow customers to have more than 3 checking accounts. This is a significant issue if you want to open checking accounts for your XXXX XXXX as those accounts have to be opened as a custodial account. I currently have 3 checking accounts open at Ally that are all joint accounts for me and my husband : ( 1 ) used as my personal account ; ( 2 ) used as my husbands personal account ; ( 3 ) used as a joint account for joint expenses. I want to open a checking account for my minor son. I tried to do it online and was told that I had already hit my limit of 3 checking accounts, even though this last account would be a custodial account for my child. I tried calling customer service ( XX/XX/year> ) and was told the same thing and that there are no exceptions to this, although it was unclear if the agent fully understood my request. The only account available would be a savings account. However, a savings account is subject to transaction limits and per Ally 's website they will " close your account if you exceed it on more than an occasional basis '', so a savings account is not a feasible solution. With this policy, there would be no way for a parent with XXXX or more XXXX to hold checking accounts for their children at Ally.
