I opened an account in XX/XX/XXXX at SoFi Bank so my daughter could transfer her earnings from a waitressing job into an account that she could easily access during her fall XXXX semester abroad. We successfully transferred over her saving from another savings account, and she was able to cash a couple of her work checks to the SoFi account. One of the check, however, was expired. The expired check was for {$290.00}. This check was returned. The account was frozen on XX/XX/XXXX. Over the past year I have called and asked for information, and was only told the account was pending closure and that the money remaining in the account would be returned via the associated account we used to set up the account. I submitted a complaint to the XXXX and was told by SoFi we violated the agreement, but I never receive a call or was given the opportunity to discuss the problem. We were never told the money would NOT be returned. I called in early XXXX XXXX, nearly a year later, and was told the same thing. I called again on XX/XX/XXXX, and was informed a decision had been made on XX/XX/XXXX. I was told we were NOT ENTITLED to the funds in the account. They had confiscated {$1300.00} of my daughter 's earnings which she had saved for her study abroad semester - because of an attempt to cash an expired check.
