On XX/XX/scrub> 2024, Venmo ( NOT the IRS ) fraudulently withheld monies paid to me ( from XXXX previous Venmo payments ) from my spouse ( from whom I am legally separated ) for reimbursement for childcare expenses ( his share of swim lesson costs for our children ). I notified Venmo numerous times of this error, beginning with attempts to reach out via phone ( speaking to dozens of Venmo employees explaining the situation ). Several times I was assured of resolution and was promised calls back to correct Venmo 's error ( to which they were noticed of the error dozens if not hundreds of times ). Having never received the promised calls, I did eventually receive an email with copy/pasted info pertaining to tax withholdings for vendors for " goods and services. '' As apparent in the email threads, I have had no resolution from Venmo for their error. Most of the emails I received were copy/pasted paragraphs about tax withholdings. Throughout this process, I could not have been any more clear with Venmo that these payments were childcare expense reimbursement, a point that I re-iterated ad nauseum. Such expenses are not subject to taxes of any kind ; in fact, it is illegal to do so.
