Consumer Narrative
Dear Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, I am writing to file a formal complaint against Diversified Adjustment Service , Inc. ( DAS ), a debt collection agency that has been harassing me regarding an alleged debt they claim I owe to XXXX. The amount in question is {$120.00}, with a past due balance of {$110.00}. DAS has a poor reputation among consumers, and their actions in my case further demonstrate their unethical practices. They have repeatedly refused to provide any validation or breakdown of the charges they claim I owe. Instead, they provided a vague document that shows all equipment, services, and plans as " {$0.00}, '' yet still claims a past due balance. Despite multiple requests, they refuse to provide the actual bill that breaks down these charges. The document they sent me is a " request for a payment that can't be validated, '' which raises several red flags. On the document, they list all services as " This month 's charges are the same as last month- {$0.00}, '' equipment as " This month 's charges are the same as last month- {$0.00}, '' and plans as " This month 's charges are the same as last month- {$0.00}. '' Additionally, there is a one-time charge that lacks any clear definition, only listed as " 1 other one-time charge = {$3.00}. '' This is not a legitimate definition of a bill ; it feels as if they are attempting to charge me simply because they are a business and want to. I have contacted XXXX directly, and one representative stated that the account didn't exist, while another claimed it did exist but refused to provide any information and instead routed me back to DAS. I will be happy to provide recordings of these conversations as well. Even XXXX seems unable to provide validation of the debt, which further supports my belief that DAS is attempting to collect on an invalid debt. I have mentioned to DAS that XXXX has a history of mishandling paperwork and has previously billed customers who owe nothing. I believe my account is a reflection of this ongoing issue, and I suspect that DAS is being used as XXXX 's " enforcer '' to collect on both legitimate and illegitimate debts. I have and will continue submitting disputes with them until I get the referenced " last bill. '' However, DAS seems intent on collecting an unvalidated debt. Recently, I received a phone call from a representative named XXXX, who claimed that the debt is valid " no matter what, '' implying that DAS will not honor my right to dispute or receive validation. I believe this constitutes extortion, as they are trying to collect money without justification. All of my interactions with DAS, including this phone call, have been recorded. DAS 's actions are not only disrespectful but have also caused me significant emotional distress, including a physical reaction due to the way I was treated. I feel that they are victimizing me as a consumer by leveraging their position as a company to bully and intimidate me into paying. I request that the CFPB investigate this matter and hold DAS accountable for their unethical and potentially illegal behavior. I am prepared to provide documentation, including recordings of phone calls and the document they sent, which does not validate any debt. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, XXXX XXXX
